Changing the World
One Container at a Time
Biocontainment Infrastructure Services (BIS) is owned and managed by Ingrid Terlouw, a South African pathology sector leader with over 30 years of experience. Since the early 1990s, she has developed and implemented over 35 clinical diagnostic laboratories across South Africa, including her first International project at Botswana Private Hospital.
Ingrid was pivotal in launching the first containerised labs in South Africa’s rural areas as part of the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). This groundbreaking success prompted BIS to expand internationally, delivering the first Containerised TB Laboratory (CTL) to the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ). This success motivated BIS to expand into other
industries, leading to a collaboration with Fabrinox
to specifically target the mining sector.
